Muncie Animal Care and Services Hosts Special Week-Long Adoption Event

Muncie Animal Care and Services (MACS) is facing complications as the number of pets in the shelter’s care has increased. He’s hosting an adoption even this week to help as many pets as possible find homes.

MACS has extended the Adopt-A-Thon event until August 21, offering reduced adoption fees during regular business hours. The goal is to help as many kittens, cats and dogs to find their forever home.

Over the past month, MACS has had several neglect and rescue cases that have increased the shelter’s population to nearly 400 animals. This is well beyond the normal capacity of the installation.

MACS director Ethan Browning said the facility and staff received nearly 1,700 animals this year in July, which is well above half of normal intake. MACS normally takes about 3,000 animals per year.

The adoption event will run from Monday August 16 through Saturday August 21 during normal shelter hours.

All available animals are spayed and neutered, have received age-appropriate vaccinations and tests, and come with a free welfare check-up with a participating veterinarian. The shelter asks adopters to bring either a leash and collar for adoptable dogs, or a transport cage for adoptable cats and kittens.

With the event, the shelter changes its adoption fees for the week. Adoption rates will be as follows: dogs $ 25, cats $ 10, kittens 2 for $ 10.

Free adoptions will be offered to first responders, active duty military and veterans, as well as those over the age of 50.

Pets over 7 years old and pets that have been in the facility for more than 6 months will have all adoption fees waived.

The shelter can only accept cash or checks for fee payment at this time.

Each adopter during the event will receive a gift bag made by the local Girl Scout Troop 2558 while supplies last and be entered into a draw for a prize basket. Adopters can also stop by MACS’s Gotcha Day photo booth on the way out to take a photo with their new furry friend.

MACS will also have t-shirts for sale for $ 20, with the proceeds going to the MACS Foster program.

Adopters who rent homes or apartments must provide a copy of their pet policy before adopting a pet. If the adopters are interested in adopting a dog and currently have a dog in their home, a meeting is required at the shelter prior to an adoption or doggie date.
