Muncie Animal Care and Services gets in the mood with ’12 Strays of Christmas’
MUNCIE, Ind. – Muncie Animal Care and Services is hosting their annual “12 Strays of Christmas” event, offering the adoption of dogs and cats in need of a home for $ 12 each.
The adoption special will run until December 23, said Ashley Honeycutt, director of the shelter office. The usual price for adoptions is $ 100 for dogs and $ 65 for cats.
The refuge is “pretty full now,” Honeycutt said. As the town shelter seeks to find homes for the animals, it discourages the purchase of pets as Christmas gifts for people outside the home of those who buy the dog or cat.
Parents can get a pet for their child who still lives at home, she said.
Every year, Honeycutt said, the shelter receives animals in January that have been given to someone as a Christmas present, but the person is unable to care for the animal.
All cat, kitten and dog adoptions cost $ 12 now through December 23. The shelter will continue to waive adoption fees for active duty military, veterans, seniors and first responders. Additionally, Honeycutt said, any animal 6 years of age or older that has been at the shelter for more than six months will be granted an adoption fee waiver.

The refuge only accepts cash or checks. The agency does not have a credit / debit card machine.
All animals spayed / neutered and vaccinated
“All of our animals are sterilized, have undergone all age-appropriate vaccinations and tests, as well as a free welfare checkup with a participating vet,” she said.
In the past, the 12 Strays of Christmas took place over a 24 hour period. The annual event did not take place last year due to the pandemic. This year, shelter officials decided to offer the discount in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
Adoptable pets can be viewed at www.Petfinder.com., Or in person at the shelter, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to noon, or Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. The shelter is located at 901 W. Riggin Road.
