In total, the center has more than 1,700 animals in its care, including 1,049 in foster care awaiting forever homes and 655 in search of foster or adoption homes.
The center always has more large dogs than space to house them, some staying in meeting rooms and pop-up kennels. The center attributes the influx of large dogs to several factors, including healthy stray animals brought to the shelter, an increase in calls for pet support, more dogs who prefer to be alone in their kennels and an influx of animals forming part of the protection of animals. âWe still need adopters and foster families,â Dangler said. “We often start each day with only a few kennels open.”
