Colchester Zoo is recruiting for 7 positions, including Animal Care Team Leader

COLCHESTER Zoo is looking for a new Team Leader for its Animal Care Team.

The role, one of seven currently on offer at the Maldon Road attraction, will see the successful candidate working with a range of species, including the zoo’s primates and great apes.

The job posting states: “The successful candidate will be expected to manage a team of staff and oversee the care of a range of species, providing ideas for the continued progression and development of breeding and pen design. and organize talks and presentations for the public as well as ensure high standards of animal care and farm management.

“As team leader, they will report directly to the living collections management team and will be responsible for all aspects of the management of the section, including staff rotations, disciplinary procedures, staff evaluations , section protocols, safe work protocols and practices, risk assessments, husbandry and diets, breeding programs, animal training and enrichment programs, moving the section forward and planning for future developments . ”

Applicants must have ten years of experience working in a zoological collection.

Excellent customer service, communication and husbandry skills are essential, along with experience supervising staff and managing risk in a zoo environment.

Applicants must have the Diploma in Zoo and Aquarium Animal Management or equivalent qualification and have a valid driver’s license.

The start date is as early as possible and the salary would be based on experience.
